How to prepare yourself for tattoo session

To not die under the needle or something like that, always follow these easy steps:

Exfoliate

Exfoliate a week prior, especially if you’re getting tattoo on the knees, elbows, feet, fingers or hands. Exfoliating process helps in smoothing and softening your hands. When your skin is soft and elastic, it doesn’t break under the needle but allows it to pass through gently, resulting in less discomfort. Less dead skin – faster and easier goes the procedure. Hence less suffering. Cool right?

Moisturize

Moisturize skin with lotion in the days prior to your appointment. You will feel less pain, I swear

Wear sunblock

In summer wear SPF to avoid sunburns. If you’re already burnt, book tattoo session only when you’re fully recovered.

Hydrate

Drink plenty of water. Well hydrated skin not only more elastic but even regenerates faster. That’s a good thing, isn’t it?

Get rest

Take a rest. Don’t do drugs, parties, night shifts or other all-nighters. Sleep in your own bed before appointment. You’re gonna need all your strength tomorrow. Take a bath or shower. You will feel fresh and even more relaxed and rested.

Eat a good meal before your appointment.

It will help you feel less pain even more. What is good meal? It’s hell a lot of proteins and fats. Not carbs. Carbs will give you a boost of energy and you’ll feel the pain more intensely, whereas protein, being slowly digested, will calm you down for several hours. If you have a sweet tooth, I have some candies for the afterparty in my studio.

Get dressed

A tattoo is a visual anchor that will change our psycho-emotional state for life, and you don’t want to be stuck in a bad day forever. Tattoos should never be done in a bad mood. How do you prevent your mood from swinging? Outfit is the key.

Have you ever avoided being photographed because you feel self-conscious about your appearance during the process?
